The build of our special 70ft x 12ft Kingsley barge with rear cabin bedroom continues to take shape. The sprayfoam insulation has been applied to the interior and cut back now. We are very careful in the way we apply the sprayfoam to ensure there are no air pockets and as a result the boat is always cosy and warm in the winter and the cool in the summer. Now the sprayfoam has been cut back we have started on the interior fit out, including getting the initial wiring looms into place and fitting the cabin and hull sides. The cabin sides and roof are being lined out in cream painted panels whilst the hull sides in the saloon and corridor are being finished in light oak tongue and groove to give a stylish modern look.
The electrical systems for this boat will be quite different from that of a standard Kingsley as the boat will have an electric propulsion system (similar to that installed in our previous eco boat ‘Tulak’, which is also featured on our website in the case studies section). The propulsion system for this boat is going to differ slightly from that installed in ‘Tulak’ but is essentially the same and features a Bellmarine electric motor and a Fischer Panda generator, with a large battery bank offering 48V as well as the 12V and 230V electrical systems. She will also be fitted with a 5KW inverter providing plenty of power for modern day living.
We will be releasing more information about this special boat as the build progresses. Watch this space for more details and photographs.
